Janice R. Burton
State Women's Committee Chairman
Janice R. Burton of Scottsburg in Halifax County was re-elected to a fourth term as chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women's Committee in December 2008.
The VFBF Women's Program, for which the Women’s Committee serves as a steering body, provides leadership and service opportunities for farm women and sponsors events that help educate the non-farming public about agriculture.
Burton, who grew up on a farm in Halifax County, served on the Halifax County Farm Bureau Women's Committee for eight years and the VFBF Women’s Committee for seven years and has chaired the state committee since 2001. She also serves on the board of the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom.
She was employed by Virginia Cooperative Extension for 30 years.
She and her husband are retired tobacco, dairy, corn and small grain producers in Halifax County. They are still involved in hay production and lease farm acres for vegetable production. Before retiring they had a joint operation with a brother-in-law in an agriculture supply business and manufactured liquid fertilizer.
Burton is the preschool department director at Bethel Baptist Church in Scottsburg. In her spare time she enjoys golf and antiquing.
