Edward A. Scharer
Vice President
Edward A Scharer, an Albemarle County beef, hog and forage producer, was elected vice president of Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Nov. 29, 2006.
Elections of officers and directors were held at the organization’s annual convention in Hot Springs. Scharer will serve a two-year term.
He previously served three terms on the VFBF board of directors, representing Farm Bureau producer-members in the counties of Albemarle, Fluvanna, Goochland, Greene, Hanover, Henrico and Louisa. Scharer has chaired the VFBF Land Use Advisory Committee and Wine Grape Advisory Committee and served as vice chairman of the Natural and Environmental Resources and Forestry Advisory Committee. He is a past president and former legislative director of the Albemarle County Farm Bureau.
In addition, Scharer is a member and past chairman of the Virginia Pork Industry Board and serves on the boards of the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture, Innovation and Rural Sustainability and the Virginia Foundation for Agriculture in the Classroom. He is a past director of the Thomas Jefferson Soil and Water Conservation District and the Blue Ridge Farm Credit Bank.
The 1964 graduate of Rutgers University has been farming in Virginia since 1973. He and his wife, Tracy, have two grown children.
