Floyd County farmer re-elected to Farm Bureau board
Evelyn H. Janney of Floyd was elected Nov. 28 to a second three-year term on the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation board of directors. Elections of officers and directors were held during the organization’s 2007 Annual Convention in Chantilly.
Janney serves on the VFBF Rural Health Advisory Committee and Membership Services Advisory Committee. As a board member she will represent Farm Bureau producer members in Bland, Carroll, Floyd, Giles, Montgomery, Pulaski and Wythe counties.
Janney and her husband, Chester, have a cow/calf operation. She has been a Farm Bureau member since 1976 and is a past president of the Floyd County Farm Bureau and the 1991 VFBF Farm Woman of the Year. She also served on the committee that established Farm Bureau’s Virginia AgPAC political action committee and is a former AgPAC trustee.
On the local level she has served as Floyd County Farm Bureau’s legislative director and Women’s Committee chairman and co-chairman. She has served on both the local and state-level Farm Bureau Resolutions Committee and has been an active participant in Farm Bureau policy development.
Janney is a member of the Floyd County Planning Commission, a citizen representative on the New River Planning District Commission and a citizen representative of the New River Valley on the Virginia Roanoke River Basin Advisory Committee. She is a former member and chairman of her local Southern States co-op board and a former legal secretary.
She attends Stonewall Brethren/Methodist Church, where she is the organist and pianist, a youth teacher and an active volunteer. She also is a member of the Floyd Courthouse Chapter of the Daughters of the American Revolution and has been active in local 4-H activities.
The Janneys have three children and six grandchildren.
