Agriculture in Our County

Southeast of Charlottesville, Fluvanna County is home to 328 farms as well as scenic Lake Monticello.

Along the James and Rivanna rivers are some of Fluvanna’s 60,459 acres of farmland. The county has 139 full-time farmers, as well as 8,000 head of mostly beef cattle. Fluvanna also has a few hogs, sheep and laying hens.

In 2002, Fluvanna farmers produced 1,500 acres of corn and 11,000 acres of hay.

Overall, Fluvanna agriculture generated $4.1 million in cash receipts in 2002, according to the latest agriculture census.
