Farm Bureau Ambassador program now
open to young men
The Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador program has seen several changes through the years.
Formerly known as Miss Virginia Farm Bureau, in 2005 the ambassador gained her new title and lost her tiara, while keeping her sash. The program is still evolving.
Starting this year, the Virginia Farm Bureau Ambassador program is open to young women and young men from producer member families. Participants will be expected to provide an agricultural issue or project that they plan to pursue should they be selected as ambassador.
“These are exciting times for us as we embrace this new version of the Ambassador program,” said Janice Burton, chairman of the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Women’s Committee. “What a wonderful way to have more youth involved in Farm Bureau to promote agriculture.”
The purpose of the program remains the same: to recognize young adults for their knowledge of and interests and achievements in agriculture.
The state-level winner will represent Farm Bureau and Virginia agriculture at events throughout 2009 and receive a $1,000 scholarship.
Each applicant must be at least 18 years old and have not reached his or her 26th birthday by Dec. 31.
Interested participants should contact their county Farm Bureaus for entry deadline information. Participants must be selected in their county Farm Bureau competitions in order to compete during the VFBF Annual Convention in December at The Homestead.
