Poster and essay contests
are open to all youth
Entries are being accepted for Virginia Farm Bureau Federation’s annual youth poster and essay contests through June 1.
Both contests are open to the public. The theme for each is “Agriculture Matters to Me,” and rules and entry forms are available at county Farm Bureau offices and online.
Poster contest entries can be drawn, painted or assembled collage-style and may not exceed 11 inches by 17 inches. Participants’ work will be judged in two age categories: kindergarten through second grade and third through fifth grade. Trophies will be presented to two winners from each of Farm Bureau’s nine regional districts, and winners’ work will be displayed at the 2008 VFBF Annual Convention.
Essay contest entries will be judged on originality of thought; method of expression; neatness; and correct spelling and sentence structure. Essays will be judged in two age categories; participants in third through fifth grade should submit essays of at least 200 words, and those in sixth through eighth grade should submit essays of at least 400 words. Two state-level winners will receive a $50 prize and an invitation to read their essays at the 2008 VFBF Annual Convention.
