Virginia barley and winter wheat harvests have been on a downward trend for several years, and 2016 was an especially disappointing one for growers.



Virginia Farm Bureau Grain Marketing key player in supply chain

According to the U.S. Department of Agriculture, Virginia’s farmers produced more than half a billion bushels of grain and soybeans between 2006 and 2012. And the Virginia Farm Bureau Federation Grain Marketing Division moves millions of those bushels across the state annually.



New Henry County feed mill to create 32 new jobs

The new Performance Livestock and Feed Co. production facility in Henry County will create jobs and help area grain producers as well.



Brewery mash makes for contented cows, farmers say

It’s a happy marriage of recycling and animal husbandry for two beef cattle operations in Nelson County. Massie and Joyce Saunders feed spent mash from Blue Mountain Barrel House Brewery as a supplement to their herd at Rose Isle Farm.
